Interim District Attorney Summer Stephan, a Republican, and Deputy Public Defender Geneviéve Jones-Wright, a Democrat, are running to be San Diego County District Attorney. The office prosecutes felonies in the county and misdemeanors outside the city of San Diego, while managing about 1,000 employees, including some 300 prosecutors that handle 40,00 cases and 700 trials a year. The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board interviewed both candidates for more than an hour. Here are those interviews, lightly edited. The candidate who gets more than half the vote in the June 5 primary will be elected district attorney for four years.
